It may not come as a surprise to some businesses that the UK government has now invested significant sums of money to help small businesses raise finance. Unlike previous support, known commonly as the 'Access To Finance Programme', the current package of support, now available to all business types, is designed to assist mainly established businesses including business start-up to raise finance successfully.
The funding small business assistance programme comes in the form of getting a business consultant to put together a business plan for finance and assist with sourcing and raising finance for the business mainly through loans but business grants and equity finance can be part of the mixture. Businesses can also get assistance to become finance ready particularly if they have not got all the right systems in place to impress financiers to invest in their business.
This assistance is worth over £3000 plus VAT and it is free of charge to businesses that get on board the ship before it starts sailing. If you are a small business based in London in particular, by all means contact me for more information as my business is involved in this programme. But before you do, please remember that your business must be trading here in the UK. It does not matter where your customers are based, as long as your business is registered in the UK you will qualify. Other criteria apply. You have to demonstrate that your business model is sound and you have been running a viable business. As you can imagine, a responsible bank will not lend to a business that can’t repay the money nor will any sane investor invest with no expectation of capital protection and returns on capital invested. The directors of the business or business owner (in the case of sole proprietor) should be UK residence and must provide proof to this effect, usually passport. The business and its directors should also have a clean credit rating. So be prepared to submit your experian credit report. I have to let you know all this information upfront to ensure that I am approached only by businesses that can provide the information requested for the assistance.
