Course Objectives :

This course is targeted at officers  involved in the procurement of goods and services in their organisation that want to learn the basics of contract law to mitigate procurement risks as far as possible.

This course does not replace the need for legal advise.  Participants will still need  to consult with their legal team for matters relating to contracts. The course  seeks to empower  participants  to learn the language of legal contracts, understand what the  different clauses and provisions mean and finally learn how to write a simple binding contract.

 As a result of the knowledge gain in this course, participants will be able to reduce  their legal fees on contract writing,  as well as better understand how to put together effective contract management systems for  supplier performance monitoring.

1. Definition  of legal contract including the core ingredients that make for a binding contract

2.The purpose of legal contracts and their commercial and legal value in business operations

3. The structure and language of legal contracts including the definition of clauses

4. Different forms of contracts  and when they should be used

5. Practicalities of using legal contracts to mitigate risks

6. How to spot and address loopholes in contracts for effective risk management and added value.

7. How to put together a simple binding agreement or contract

8. Review of case studies and lots of exercises with templates to take with you.
